Side Stand Switch Fault Code P1601

Problem:
Because of a software problem in the ECU for 2016-2017 model FJR1300, XSR900, and FZ-10 motorcycles, the Engine Trou-
ble Warning Light on the meter may come on even though faults do not currently exist. The indicator will remain on until the motorcycle has been connected to a diagnostic tool to read and erase the code.
Cause:

The starter interlock circuit, which includes the sidestand switch, is routed to the ECU via the main switch. There are two main contacts in the main switch; one is to switch on electrical power to the unit and the other is the sidestand switch. Both of
these circuits must be closed in order to start the motorcycle.

Remedy:
A modified ECU programming file has been made available to reflash and correct the ECU’s logic using the Yamaha diagnostic tool version 3.1 or later (YDTv3.1x). To reflash the ECU on applicable models, see the Service Procedures section. NOTE: This modification does not alter the emissions compliance of this product.
