There's nothing more exciting than shopping for a new off-road vehicle, but the number of choices can be overwhelming. UTVs are both fun and functional, and there are models with lots of great features at several different price points. Before you make your purchasing decision, it's important to do plenty of research. Here's some basic information that will help you get started. To learn more, come see us at Bright Power Sports in Lincoln Park, Michigan. We proudly serve UTV lovers in Detroit, Michigan, and the Wayne County area.

How is a UTV different from an ATV?

UTV is an abbreviation for "Utility Terrain Vehicle," which is a different class of vehicle from an ATV (all-terrain vehicle). UTVs can do all of the same things that ATVs can, but they're better suited to work and generally have more powerful engines with more horsepower and higher torque. Additionally, many UTVs feature enhanced performance suspension systems and better four-wheel-drive capabilities. You can also use a UTV with a number of trailers and attachments to tow equipment, carry cargo, or work the land. Many farmers and ranchers use UTVs to go places where their tractors can't go.

Pros and Cons of UTVs

UTVs are generally a better investment if you plan on riding with passengers. Some ATVs might be able to accommodate a passenger, but some UTV models can comfortably seat up to six passengers. They also offer a lot more functionality for farming and commercial applications and more safety features such as roll cages, doors, and seat belts. You can usually expect to pay a little more for a UTV with a comparable amount of horsepower as an ATV but will get more features for the extra money.

Is a UTV right for me?

UTVs and side-by-sides seem like a pretty obvious choice when you compare them to ATVs. They usually cost more, but they're well worth the money if you're interested in the extra features. They come in extremely handy for just about any task that you can imagine, and there are a ton of great aftermarket parts and attachments if you want to "trick out" your UTV.  If you're budget-conscious and generally ride by yourself, a standard ATV might be all that you need. But most UTV owners love finding new ways to put them to work, and they're great to have in addition to (or in place of) a tractor. You should also remember that the more you use your UTV, the cheaper it gets!
