When you take your UTV out into the backwoods, it gets dirty fast. You'll need to regularly clean it to avoid grime corroding its surface. Plus, cleaning it often helps it maintain an enviable appearance able to turn heads. We created the following beginner's guide to cleaning a side by side below. For all your powersports needs, visit Bright PowerSports. We proudly serve those in Detroit, Michigan.
The first step is deciding where you want to clean your UTV. One option is your lawn. Just know that you might be introducing new weeds and grass to your front yard. These plants and seeds will stick to your side by side as you ride. When you wash your side x side, they slide right off and into your lawn. If you don't want to deal with this, you can use your driveway instead. You will need to rinse away the grime so that it doesn't end up in the street or your neighbor's yard.
There will likely be a good amount of caked-on debris on your vehicle, which you will need to remove to get at the surface underneath. You can scrape it off using a plastic mud scraper. It'll give you the force you need to remove the gunk without hurting your side x side's finish or paint. Or you can use a hose to soak your vehicle first, wait for the dirt to slide off, and hose it again.
You can choose from two approaches to rinse your side by side. One is to use your normal hose and nozzle. It works but doesn't work great against the gunk that is caked-on. Another option is a pressure washer. It delivers a steady stream of high pressure, which helps remove even the most stubborn of grime. Choose between a gas or electric pressure washer (the gas one will be more powerful). If you hesitate on buying your own, look into renting options. Whichever strategy you go with, try to remove as much of the top layer of grime as you can.
Once you rinse your UTV, you are ready to scrub the gunk away. You can use a wash mitt or a sponge. For your soap, you can use bike soap or an automotive detergent. Scrub every surface of your side by side. You can also use a stiff brush to get at those nooks and crannies. If you encounter an extra oily area, spray on some degreaser. After you wait a bit, you can rinse it and the oil off.
Some people prefer to air dry their side by side, while others take the time to dry themselves. If you want to remove the moisture, you can use a lint-free towel or an air compressor.
Just like washing a car, you'll want to polish your side by side once it's clean. All you need is a simple plastic polish that you spray onto your UTV's surface and then wipe down. It's a product that'll make your side x side look brand-new!
